ABOUT

Founded in 2005 by Gavin McKenzie, McKenzie began as a small, self-performing residential general contracting firm. The vision was to create a team of like-minded individuals who were passionate about the art and science of building and the improvement of others’ lives through sustainable and progressive approaches.

In 2009, with the help of an integral and passionate team, McKenzie evolved, expanding into the commercial space. Craft, McKenzie’s custom fabrication arm, was created in 2012.

Today, McKenzie houses these divisions under one roof in a unique 25,000-square-foot re-purposed warehouse from 1938. Our goal remains the same, to provide a comprehensive and transparent approach to construction that puts professionalism and satisfaction at the forefront. From adaptive reuse to new construction, McKenzie delivers client-focused and quality products throughout the South Florida area.

McKenzie’s purpose is to create beautiful spaces & products that improve the lives of those who inhabit & utilize them.

PORTFOLIO

DILIDO  RESIDENCE

Partnering with Hazel Collins Designs, the bedrooms and bar area of this residential project feature numerous examples of our Craft team's work. Both the primary and guest bedrooms feature a custom bed frame and built-in, and each bedroom has integrated lighting, charging, and storage. The pictured bar utilizes internal structural steel underneath a solid walnut top. This feature is set against an antiqued mirror wall panel and custom solid brass shelf brackets that support iron glass shelving over concealed bar appliances.

BAY HARBOUR RESIDENCE

This design-build project utilized the full potential of McKenzie, featuring a fully custom set of millwork throughout the entire residence. Built with family in mind, this home embodies the owner’s unique taste, while integrating luxury finishes and features throughout.

COCONUT GROVE
RESIDENCE

This residence received numerous modifications from both our Construction and Craft divisions. Black Walnut veneers were hand selected to create seamless custom doors and wall paneling that wraps the entire entryway and flows directly into the living room. Within this custom paneling, concealed doors are operated with push latch hardware, making the mechanical aspects virtually invisible. The paneling system also deftly hides numerous building systems, including HVAC, alarm systems, and an integrated method to hang artwork.

MIAMI BEACH RESIDENCE

Designed in a way to blur the distinction between indoor versus outdoor, McKenzie's goal was to create a tropical, modern solution with a plethora of exterior spaces, allowing an ample amount of natural light while retaining a warm residential feel for this Miami Beach residence. The use of stone, dark stucco, and extensive glass on the first floor with white stucco walls and limited glass on the second floor, helped accomplish the initial concept of a lofted mass where the private bedrooms would reside over a much more transparent and recessive base.

LENOX AVENUE RESIDENCE

The restoration of this 1936 Streamline Moderne home in Miami Beach included the addition of bedrooms, outdoor terrace space, and multiple living spaces. An emphasis was placed on merging the interior spaces with the exterior spaces of the home to create indoor-outdoor living areas throughout the property. Modern touches were incorporated to complement the original art deco features of the home.

CORAL GABLES RESIDENCE

McKenzie Construction and Craft collaborated on the renovation and restoration of this Coral Gables Residence, blending an eclectic design with luxury finishes throughout the kitchen, living, and bath areas. Restoring original wood features and incorporating the designer and owner’s unique vision, this nearly 6,000 SQ FT home contains a micro-cement primary bathroom, solid white oak cabinetry, and handmade artisanal tile from Mexico throughout, making each room a distinct vignette within this large, dynamic home.

BAYWOOD RESIDENCE

McKenzie Craft fabricated a custom entry unite and entertainment console for this Baywood Residence, creating back-to-back storage and display solutions with built-in cabinetry and fabric-backed shelving. In addition, matching custom cabinetry was installed in the kitchen area, featuring integrated appliances and a spacious island, creating a seamless transition from the adjacent living area.

VENETIAN RESIDENCE

Our team collaborated with designer Lauryn Stone of STUDIO LS, Inc, to outfit this residence with unique cabinets, built-in shelving, and furniture for the primary bedroom. Solid walnut scalloped tambour panels provide unique shapes and silhouettes in the center of the household while the bedroom features a variety of finishes and textures in the headboard, bedframe, and side tables.

ECHO BRICKELL PENTHOUSE

For the apex penthouse in Brickell’s premier residential high-rise, Echo Brickell, McKenzie Craft worked alongside The Wall Studio and JMAF to create custom vanities, doors, wall paneling, and cabinetry to embolden the luxurious views and amenities provided by the penthouse.

MIAMI BEACH
CONDO

With a priceless view overlooking Biscayne Bay, this Miami Beach condo received work from both our Build and Craft departments. A custom bar and island serve as focal points in the kitchen, with integrated stainless steel appliances and glass shelving. Custom closet doors in the primary bedroom and bathroom contrast with other luxury finishes throughout, such as fluted glass doors and dividers.

Take a stroll down Paseo Ponti, the pedestrian walkway that connects Paradise Plaza to Palm Court, to view cloud structures designed by the Bouroullec Brothers, a unique "bus stop" fountain designed by Urs Fischer, and a series of benches designed by David Leven and Stella Betts. We completed the install of these public artworks in Miami’s Design District to bring more life and vibrancy to the neighborhood.

PASEO PONTI

This forty-foot table piece, designed by Snarkitecture, showcases an impressive synthesis of form and function. With an innovative connecting mechanism that turns four tables into one seamless piece, this fully functional table serves as a continuation of the accompanying digital artwork by Six N. Five through a functional, sculptural fabrication.

REFLECT TABLE

Installed directly outside the famous Sunset Lounge, this art piece, created by DC based Nekisha Durrett commemorates the historical figures and cultural movements intertwined with the location. Fabricated in our Allapattah workshop, this project represents a collaboration of innovation, craftmanship, and artistry.
