Founded in 2005 by Gavin McKenzie, McKenzie began as a small, self-performing residential general contracting firm. The vision was to create a team of like-minded individuals who were passionate about the art and science of building and the improvement of others’ lives through sustainable and progressive approaches.

In 2009, with the help of an integral and passionate team, McKenzie evolved, expanding into the commercial space. Craft, McKenzie’s custom fabrication arm, was created in 2012.

Today, McKenzie houses these divisions under one roof in a unique 25,000-square-foot re-purposed warehouse from 1938. Our goal remains the same, to provide a comprehensive and transparent approach to construction that puts professionalism and satisfaction at the forefront. From adaptive reuse to new construction, McKenzie delivers client-focused and quality products throughout the South Florida area.

PORTFOLIO

PIER SIXTY-SIX

Fort Lauderdale’s iconic 32-acre resort has officially reopened, offering guests a seamless blend of modern enhancements and classic favorites, including the renowned 17th-floor rotating lounge. McKenzie Craft played a key role in this significant restoration, delivering custom fabrications across three floors with precision and innovation, showcasing the highest standards of craftsmanship.

KYU

With an expansive scope spread across multiple stories, FIU received a large set of McKenzie Craft fabrications for their residential building in Sweetwater. From a custom reception desk in the lobby area, to fully outfitted study lounges, workout centers, and community spaces, McKenzie assisted in elevating this new residence hall with luxurious finishes, designed with functionality in mind.

FLAMINGO LODGE

& RESTAURANT

Nestled in the heart of Florida’s Everglades, McKenzie has completed a set of four new cottages and a brand new restaurant space, highlighting the national park and the surrounding local landscape. Created utilizing both repurposed and new shipping containers, this project nods heavily to notions of sustainability and green building, from the solar-powered water heating system to the included landscape design, curated specifically to have the least negative impact on the surrounding natural environment possible.

THE ESME HOTEL

Designated a Miami Beach property historic landmark in 1925, McKenzie had the distinct privilege of rebuilding, reinforcing, and recreating the esteemed Clay Hotel. Along with Jessica Schuster Design, our goal was to create a village in Miami Beach that evoked the feeling of a faraway oasis.

LENOX AVE RESIDENCE

The restoration of this 1936 Streamline Moderne home in Miami Beach included the addition of bedrooms, outdoor terrace space, and multiple living spaces. An emphasis was placed on merging the interior and exterior spaces of the home to create indoor-outdoor living areas throughout the property. Modern touches were incorporated to complement the original art deco features of the home.

RUBELL MUSEUM

We completed this adaptive re-use project by turning six former industrial buildings into an epic 100,000 square-foot museum campus comprised of 40 galleries, a flexible performance space, an art research library, a bookstore, and a restaurant that opens onto a courtyard. All three divisions of McKenzie had the opportunity to work on this incredible project, working alongside Seldorf-Architects as the Architect of Record, General Contractor, and custom millwork team.

McKenzie joins forces with Michael Pirolo’s notable South Beach restaurant, Macchianlina, to spearhead the redesign of this popular destination for its rustic, yet sophisticated Italian fare. With a fully transformed interior as well as an enclosed outdoor space, Macchialina is back and better than ever.

MACCHIALINA

BELLA ISLA

Situated on Miami’s historic Venetian Causeway, Bella Isla boasts luxury apartment living, complete with a variety of Craft fabrications, from lobby to leasing office and gym. Micro-cement and rope-wrapped columns, a custom reception desk, and suspended shelving greet residents and guests alike, while common areas are complete with custom seating, shelving units, and a variety of luxury finishes.

PMG OFFICE SUITE

Located on the 13th floor of The Elser Hotel in Downtown Miami, the PMG Developers office space boasts an impressive array of McKenzie Craft fabrications, from a fully custom kitchen setup, complete with millwork and a large island, to a 44-foot built-in unit, creating storage space and media solutions. With the edition of a custom conference table and reception desk, the office suite has no shortage of luxury finishes to compliment the excellent view of Downtown Miami.

REFLECT TABLE

This forty-foot table piece, designed by Snarkitecture, showcases an impressive synthesis of form and function. With an innovative connecting mechanism that turns four tables into one seamless piece, this fully functional table serves as a continuation of the accompanying digital artwork by Six N. Five through a functional, sculptural fabrication.

KITH

When Kith opened their Miami flagship in 2016, it marked the first time there was a permanent presence outside of New York. Designed in collaboration with Snarkitecture, the brick-and-mortar store features an interior crafted from custom terrazzo panels that form a gradient from white to blue, as well as arches of 500 cast Jordan V sneakers.

     DILIDO RESIDENCE

Partnering with Hazel Collins Designs, the bedrooms and bar area of this residential project feature numerous examples of our Craft team's work. Both the primary and guest bedrooms feature a custom bed frame and built-in, and each bedroom has integrated lighting, charging, and storage. The pictured bar utilizes internal structural steel underneath a solid walnut top.

FUMC

A project years in the making, McKenzie Construction and Craft helped complete the build-out of this multistory church in the heart of Miami’s downtown area. Located near Bayside Marketplace, every story of this community center offers excellent ocean views, from media rooms and conference rooms to an adaptive sanctuary space. With special attention paid to ADA-accessible amenities, FUMC’s new location promises to be a dynamic addition to the city.

NEWPORT BEACHSIDE

The first stage of an impressive renovation project, Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort has received a considerable facelift, with a brand new pool deck and outdoor area allowing guests to take advantage of Sunny Isle’s magnificent beaches and the historic Newport Fishing Pier. With new cabana structures, a brand new pool deck, and an intricate array of landscaping and seating options, McKenzie’s work at this classic hotel brings it back into the spotlight, highlighting the new while maintaining the welcoming feel that this AAA Diamond-rated resort is known for.

Take a stroll down Paseo Ponti, the pedestrian walkway that connects Paradise Plaza to Palm Court, to view cloud structures designed by the Bouroullec Brothers, a unique "bus stop" fountain designed by Urs Fischer, and a series of benches designed by David Leven and Stella Betts. We completed the install of these public artworks in Miami’s Design District to bring more life and vibrancy to the neighborhood.

PASEO PONTI

SLS BRICKELL LUX

Custom laser-cut steel sheets, a floating marble clad desk, and bright hued mirror screens line the lobby of SLS Brickell LUX. For the third SLS branded property in Miami, we created custom millwork pieces for the lobby and common areas including the hotel guest rooms and suites.

THE RITZ CARLTON

After a massive renovation, the Ritz Carlton South Beach once again opened its doors in 2020. Our Craft division was selected to create custom millwork throughout the lobby and common spaces. Walnut wall cladding, columns, reception and concierge desks accented with tubular brass work can be found throughout the lobby. The bar features a marble facade with solid brass inlays and oversized gloss lacquer cabinetry with brass embellishments. Metal rack shelving is accentuated by a brushed nickel finish, textured glass inserts, and integrated LED lighting.

We complement our client’s vision, design aesthetic, and goals by paying close attention to details from inception to completion. We strongly value our client’s satisfaction and seek to create trusting & enduring relationships.
